Additional Hardware Provided with Your Eufy Smart Lock

Inside the box with your Eufy Smart Lock, you’ll find all the necessary hardware:

  • Mounting plate

  • Deadbolt assembly

  • Strike plate

  • Screws of various sizes

  • Rechargeable battery

Pre-Installation Checklist

Before we dive into the actual installation, let’s run through a quick checklist:

  • Ensure your door’s dimensions match the Eufy Smart Lock’s requirements.

  • Check the battery charge to avoid any power issues during setup.

  • Have your Wi-Fi password handy for connecting the lock to the Eufy Security App.

Now, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to the fun part – installing your new smart lock!

Removing your old deadbolt might seem daunting, but it’s really just a matter of unscrewing a few bolts. Start by taking off the interior faceplate of your existing lock. Usually, this is done by removing the screws that hold it in place. Once you’ve removed the faceplate, the rest of the deadbolt hardware should be easy to take out. Just keep all the parts together—you never know when you might need them again!

Check the dept of the basket from the edge of the door, is it 60 or 70 mm

If 60 mm, install the ldeadbolt directly

If 70mm, rotate the deadbolt 180 degrees, extend the length of the feadbolt

Fix the deatdbolt with the provided screws (make sure the word “TOP” faces up as indicated on the deadbolt)

Next, fix with provided screws strike plate (or optional: fix first strike reinforcer with provided screws then strike plate, which is necessary step if you wish to maintain BHMA Grade 2 security).

Check the crossbore of your door, if it’s 54mm use the provided spacer to assist you in attaching the external assembly; if the cross bore is 38 mm, remove the spacer.

Lead thecable from external assembly under the deadbolt; Align the tail piece with the central hole on the deadbolt and insert the tail piece in.

Mounting the Eufy Smart Lock

The Eufy Smart Lock comes with a mounting plate that you’ll need to attach to your door. It’s this plate that will hold your smart lock in place, so make sure it’s aligned correctly. If the holes from your old deadbolt don’t quite match up, you may need to drill new ones. This is where your drill and possibly a chisel come into play, to make sure everything fits just right.

Lead the cable thru the mounting plate, fix the mounting plate with two provided screws. If the mounting plate is not tightly fastened to the inner side of the door, fix the plate with another (deadbolt/strike plate) screw as option B.

Example: After attaching the mounting plate, align the tailpiece of the Eufy Smart Lock with the slot in the mounting plate and ensure the deadbolt is in the unlocked position before securing the lock onto the plate.

Once the mounting plate is secured, take the Eufy Smart Lock and slide it onto the plate until it clicks into place. You’ll find that the design is quite intuitive, but if you encounter any resistance, don’t force it—double-check the alignment and try again. The smart lock should sit flush against the door, with no gaps or wiggle room.

Remove the battery cover from the inner assembly; Connect the cable with wire connector to the slot on inner assembly (it can be connected only one way); Align the tailpiece with the key cylinder on the inner assembly.

Connect the lock’s interior assembly. This is where the electronic components come into play. You’ll find a cable that connects the interior assembly to the exterior part of the lock. Connect these carefully, ensuring a snug fit, but be gentle to avoid damaging the pins. Once connected, secure the interior assembly with the provided screws. For detailed instructions, refer to the Eufy Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi manual.

Example: When connecting the cable, you’ll hear a click sound that indicates a secure connection. Ensure that no wires are pinched during the installation, as this could cause malfunctions.

Secure with screws inner assembly. Turn the thumbturn to check whether the deadbolt is retracted. Deadbolt should move smoothly, If it’s not travel smoothly, re-adjust the screws and re-install the mounting plate. Use the plug to cover the screw hole on the bottom of the lock.

Install the batteries (in our case that will be the pioneered rechargeable battery pack). That is all!

Now, let’s give your new smart lock some power. Insert the rechargeable battery into the interior assembly. You should see lights indicating that the lock is powering up, which means you’re on the right track. If not, double-check the battery’s orientation and connection to make sure everything is properly in place.

Do not put back yet the battery cover, you will need to scan the QR code. Now press setup. Follow the given in-app instructions.

Setting Up the Electronic Components

With the electronic components connected and the battery in place, it’s time to wake up your new smart lock. Press and hold the set button until the lock beeps and the light flashes. This indicates that the lock is in pairing mode, ready to connect to your Wi-Fi network and the Eufy Security App.

Before moving on, test the basic mechanical function of the lock. Turn the thumb latch to extend and retract the deadbolt. It should move smoothly without any sticking or resistance. If it doesn’t, you may need to adjust the alignment of the lock or the mounting plate.

Securing the Lock and Testing Its Function

Now, let’s ensure everything is secure. Check all the screws one last time to make sure they’re tight and the lock is firmly in place. Give your door a few opens and closes to see how the lock responds. If everything looks good, it’s time to move on to setting up the lock’s smart features.

After the physical installation, the real magic happens when you download the Eufy Security App. This app will be the control center for your smart lock, allowing you to manage access, view entry logs, and customize settings from your smartphone.

Configuring the Eufy Security App

Head over to the app store on your smartphone and download the Eufy Security App. Once installed, create an account or log in if you already have one. Follow the in-app instructions to add your new smart lock to your list of devices. This usually involves scanning a QR code on the lock or manually entering a setup code.

Downloading and Setting Up the App

The app will guide you through connecting your smart lock to your Wi-Fi network. This step is crucial because it enables you to control the lock remotely. If you have any trouble connecting, make sure you’re close enough to your Wi-Fi router and that you’re entering the correct password.

Creating User Profiles and Managing Access

One of the great things about a smart lock is the ability to create user profiles. This means you can give each family member their own access code or fingerprint. In the app, navigate to the ‘Users’ section and add a new user. Assign them a code or enroll their fingerprint right at the door, and voilà—they now have access.

Maintenance Tips for Your Smart Lock

Think of your smart lock as a trusty car. Just as you’d regularly check your car’s oil and tire pressure, your smart lock needs similar attention to keep it functioning optimally. Here are a few tips to maintain your Eufy Smart Lock:

Regular Maintenance Checks to Ensure Longevity

First, make sure to clean the fingerprint scanner and keypad with a soft, dry cloth. This helps prevent any build-up of dirt or oils that could interfere with the sensors. Next, check the batteries periodically. The Eufy Smart Lock will notify you when the batteries are running low, but it’s good practice to keep an eye on their levels in the app.

Also, inspect the physical components of the lock. Ensure that the deadbolt turns freely and that the mounting screws are tight. Any looseness can affect the lock’s operation and your door’s security. A quick tighten with a screwdriver can make all the difference.

Lastly, it’s wise to occasionally run a system check through the Eufy Security App. This feature will ensure that all electronic components of the lock are working as they should. If the app reports any issues, you can address them promptly.

  • Clean the fingerprint scanner and keypad regularly.

  • Monitor battery levels and replace them as needed.

  • Check that all physical components are secure and functioning smoothly.

  • Use the system check feature in the Eufy Security App to diagnose any electronic issues.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even with the best care, you might encounter an issue or two. If your Eufy Smart Lock isn’t responding as expected, the first step is to check the battery level. If the batteries are fine, try recalibrating the lock through the app. This can often resolve minor glitches.

If you’re having trouble with the fingerprint recognition, re-enroll your fingerprints. This process can help the lock get a better read on your unique prints. For connectivity issues, ensure your Wi-Fi network is stable and that the lock is within range of your router.

When to Change the Batteries and Backup Solutions

Typically, the Eufy Smart Lock’s batteries should last around six months (rechargable battery packs expectancy is a year use, with average 10 uses (locking-unlocking) daily, according to lab testing), depending on usage. When it’s time to change them, the app will notify you. Always have a set of spare batteries on hand, just in case. And don’t worry—if the batteries die before you get a chance to replace them, there is option of using the micro USB port to temporarily power the lock or you can always use the physical key to unlock your door.
